MIDAS Immersion Cooling was asked to examine the performance of switches with optical interfaces while submerged in mineral oil coolant.
Immersion testing was performed with a Cisco 3508xl optical aggregation switch and Cisco WS- G5484 1000BASE-SX GBICs. AdTran and HP switches were used to provide interconnections to the servers used in the test.
Test Setup
The test setup is shown below. Three test environments were used:
1. Direct connection between servers.
2. Servers connected through switch network, all switches in air.
3. Servers connected through switch network, with the 3508Gxl immersed in coolant.
